The following is a list of best practices for a plan administrator to follow. If you find that your third-party administrator is not providing you with the support you need to complete these tasks, keep Pinnacle Plan Design in mind. We can takeover the administration of your plan and ensure that it runs smoothly moving forward.

Summary Plan Description (SPD)

• Participant inquiries should be answered via reference to SPD.
• Policy handbook and enrollment kits should simply reference SPD.
• Any change to anything within the SPD requires notification via Summary of Material Modifications (SMM), or entirely new SPD.
• Post on company “intra”-net.

Periodic Benefit Statement

• If participant directed account plan, all requirements MAY or MAY NOT BE MET via investment institution or record-keeper’s statements.
• If NOT, consider alternatives or separately comply.
• Ask your record-keeper if any personalized news or alerts can be included on the statements.
• Establish procedures to update participant addresses.
• If delivery to participant originates from Employer, retain documentation as to the delivery method utilized.
• Ensure administrative fees incurred are clearly identified (for compliance with Fee Disclosure Regulations).
