IRS Form 1099-R is titled Distributions from Pensions, Annuities, Retirement or Profit-Sharing Plans, IRAs, Insurance Contracts, etc. This form reports all distributions and tax withholding that is distributed from a retirement plan during a calendar year.

What are the deadlines associated with Form 1099-R?

The plan sponsor must provide each participant and beneficiary that received a distribution in excess of $10 with their 1099-R by January 31st of the year following the calendar year the distribution was made. The plan sponsor can file a hardcopy of Form 1099-R with the IRS no later than February 28th. If the plan sponsor would prefer to file the form electronically, the deadline is extended to March 31st.
