Electronic filing procedures require that you sign your retirement plan’s Form 5500 electronically. To sign the Form 5500, the person(s) who signs the face of the Form 5500 on behalf of either the plan sponsor or the plan administrator (or both) must obtain "filing signer" credentials.

Initial EFAST2 Credential Registration

The Department of Labor (DOL) will not permit us to obtain credentials on your behalf. To obtain the filing signer credentials, you must register on the DOL’s website. Once you are on the website, the steps are self-explanatory. The process takes approximately10 minutes to complete. We have outlined the steps below:

  1. Access the DOL's EFAST2 website at www.efast.dol.gov
  2. Click Register (on the left side panel menu under Main) and then click the Continue button.
  3. Read the privacy statement, check the box next to the statement "I have read this agreement", then click the Accept Agreement button.
  4. The website will then take you to the next page, Register - Profile Information.
    1. Enter the following information: Name, Address, Phone Number, Email Address, and Company Name.
      Please Note: The email address is the most important piece of information because the system will use that address to send you a confirmation email. The address should be one you can access easily and which you monitor regularly.
    2. Check the box for the User Type Filing Signer and click Next.
  5. On the next page, Register — Challenge Information, select a challenge question (e.g., place of birth), provide an answer, and click next.
  6. Review the Registration — Summary page, print page, and click Submit.
  7. On the next Registration Confirmation page, click OK.
  8. The DOL will then send a confirmation email to the email address you provided.
    1. Note: The DOL indicates that the email will occur immediately. If you do not see the email quickly after you completed the previous step, you may want to check your "junk email" folder as it is possible that your system may identify the email as spam. The email will be from efast2@efastsys.dol.gov.
    2. In the email, the DOL will provide a link that you will click on to receive your filing signer credentials (which will consist of a User ID and PIN code). The email message includes a statement indicating that as part of the application, you agree not to share the credentials with anyone, including a commercial service provider.
  9. Click the link from the confirmation email, which will take you to the Register — Challenge Question Verification page.
  10. On the Register — Challenge Question Verification page, answer the challenge question (e.g., place of birth) and click Next.
  11. On the next page, Register — PIN Agreement, read and accept the PIN agreement. You will agree not to share the PIN code, check the box next to the statement "I have read this agreement", and click Accept Agreement.
  12. On the next page, Register — Signature Agreement, read and accept the signature agreement. To do so, check the box that next to the statement "I have read this agreement" and click Accept Agreement.
  13. On the next page, Register — Finalize, the DOL provides you with your User ID and PIN code. Print this Page for your records and then click Next.
  14. On the next page, Register — Password, create a 10-16-character password.
    1. The password will allow you to access your User ID and PIN code.
    2. After entering your password, click Save.
  15. The last page, Register — Confirmation, informs you that you have completed the registration process.
